In this two-volume study, Dan Wadada Nabudere applies the general theory developed in his Political Economy of Imperialism to the region of East Africa and shows empirically how the East African economy has responded to developments within imperialism over the past century.
Volume I, Imperialism and Exploitation, covers the colonial period, the transition to neo-colonialism, and the attempted integration of the Tanzanian, Ugandan and Kenyan economies into the world capitalist system. It concludes with the need to move East Africa beyond neo-colonialism by means of a struggle for genuine
political and economic national independence.
Volume II, Imperialism and Integration, deals with the issues of regional cooperation within East Africa, the new forms of integration within the framework multilateral imperialism, and the role of the nation state.
